The Role

Responsible for the provisioning and maintenance of Central Office including, but not limited to subscriber loop carrier systems, DSL, POTS, GPON/PRISM, digital and optical muxes. Open 4/3/24-4/15/24

The Main Responsibilities

  • Install, test, and may be required to turn up central office and customer premise equipment consisting of electronic switching equipment (both analog and digital), toll terminal equipment, radio (both analog and digital), fiber optics, terminals, repeaters, power plants (including batteries, rectifiers, monitors, and controllers) and all other transmission and loop treatment equipment.
  • Review, interpret, and work from engineering specifications, handbooks, supplier installation manuals, floor plan layouts, blueprints, wiring schematics, and drawing specifications to determine the work to be done and the sequence of tasks.
  • Erect, assemble, paint, and align ironwork to fashion equipment racks, bays, and cabling frames, mounting equipment into these bays and frames.
  • Run, secure, and prepare cable (i.e., coaxial, fiber optics, switchboard, power, and other intraoffice cabling) in the central office environment and on customer premises.
  • Perform wiring tasks on circuit arrangements or modifications by analyzing drawings, detailed change sheets, wiring lists, and equipment specifications.
  • Test, readjust, and clear trouble on complex combinations of energized equipment and circuits not in service using installation test methods and test equipment (e.g., personal computers, fiber characterization and loss test sets, fiber and copper continuity test equipment, and voltage meters).
  • Maintain records and work schedules with associated job procedures during the progress of the work project.
  • Assist on engineering projects, by providing input for the preparation of specifications for central office jobs(e.g., schematics, wiring lists, material lists).
  • Make premise visits for equipment verification.
  • Assist the engineer in the resolution of central office and customer premise engineering problems.
  • Correct, update, and interpret specifications, office drawings, and records (e.g., wiring lists, equipment drawings, alarm schematics, ground schematics, distributing frame and fuse records).
  • Work with telecom color-coded wires and cables.
  • Assess, evaluate, and inventory job situation to determine whether the job can start or must be delayed, and take appropriate action.
  • Coordinate all procurement-related activities (e.g., material deliveries, material receipting, returned material processes).
  • Provide information needed to close out work orders or trouble reports by indicating the type of work performed, time and material charges, exception codes, field reporting codes, and/or other related information.
  • Use computers to interface with company systems and complete daily workload.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime and holidays.
  • Will be working in equipment rooms (i.e., switch, transmission, power, and vault within central office locations, remote equipment huts, customer premise locations, and controlled environments vaults (CEVs)).
  • Temperature and humidity levels are normally maintained at acceptable levels.
  • Ability to work in a moderate level of noise in most areas; however, engine rooms will have increased noise levels when engines are running.
  • Perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to: lifting and/or moving objects weighing over 100 pounds.
  • When working aloft with ladders or other equipment with weight-capacity ratings, employees must adhere to the Company safety policy and equipment weight requirements.
  • Drive company-provided vehicle.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • May require compliance with State and Federal Department of Transportation Drive Qualification Regulations, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • May require a CDL.
  • On short notice, may travel to remote or distant locations.
  • May be away from home overnight(s) on temporary assignments for varying length of time.
  • Wear safety glasses, hard hats, and appropriate safety clothing and follow established safety practices and procedures.
  • Wear attire that is appropriate for effective interaction with customers.
  • Work independently with minimal or no supervision.

Compensation

Minimum Hourly Wage $13.66
Maximum Hourly Wage $36.86
