Job Description

Responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Anesthesia equipment.

Job Responsibility

  • Assists Anesthesiologist in setting up equipment for surgical cases.
  • Applies blood pressure cuff, EKG electrodes and pulse oximeter.
  • Retrieves anesthetic medications for Anesthesiologist and Nurse Anesthetist; along with Nurse Anesthetist maintains inventory control.
  • Tests 02 analyzers, changes batteries, replace membrane and electrode solutions.
  • Positions patients for regional anesthesia.
  • Maintains inventory of anesthesia supplied and pre-stocks anesthesia machines.
  • Orders supplies and equipment
  • Tests and maintains C02 analyzer.
  • Tests and maintains Doppler's.
  • Maintains the working condition of the anesthesia machines, monitors, fluid warmers, and medication pumps.
  • Changes 02 and N20 tanks on anesthesia machines.
  • Maintains scavenging system on anesthesia machines.
  • Changes solid breathing circuits on anesthesia machines.
  • Attaches tubing to drip solutions
  • Reports damaged equipment to engineering department.
  • Loads recorder with tracing paper.
  • Maintains cleanliness of anesthesia machines, LMA's, laryngoscopes, blades, handles and fiber optic intubating scopes.
  • Maintains specialty anesthesia supply carts such as the peds and difficult intubation carts.These carts are to be orderly and stocked.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Work requires constant standing, walking, stooping, stretching, bending, pulling, pushing, turning and sitting occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity in order to handle instruments and equipment
  • Must be able to verbally communicate with patients, families and other staff members constantly
  • Required to lift position or transfer a patient with assistance
  • Lifting objects weighing from ten (10) to fifty (50) lbs
  • Ability to run for codes and emergencies frequently

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Prior experience cleaning and maintaining anesthesia equipment and fiber-optic intubating bronchoscope experience, required.OR
  • Certification in OR Tech, OR Instrumentation tech or Anesthesia Tech, required.
