HEAD COACH-WRESTLING
SEASONAL POSITION (Approximately November 11-March 2)

Salary: $3,131-$3,633

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.


Duties and Responsibilities:

 Follows and maintains knowledge of all school and VHSL policies and procedures.
 Instructs and teaches skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
 Plans and sets up activities, practices, and meets.
 Ensure a certified coach is present at all practices and meets.
 Develops appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
 Ensures that proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms and updated inventories are adhered to.
 Coordinate with the Activities Director to arrange game transportation for athletic participants.
 Coordinate with the Activities Director to arrange hotel room reservations for all overnight events except District and State competitions.
 Travels with student-athletes, or assigns a School designee to travel, on the team bus both to and from games.
 Adheres to all financial policies of the school and the VHSL regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
 Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
 Works with the Activities Director in preparing practice and meet schedules.
 Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
 Ensures that proper form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical) is obtained and current.
 Ensures that all student-athletes practicing or playing have been cleared through the Activities Director’s office.
 Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
 Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
 Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms, and all lights after the last player leaves after meets and practices.
 Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
 Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student-athletes at all times.
 Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.
 May be required to coordinate with the Press and report game scores.
 Completes school or VHSL injury report for any student injured within 24 hours even if the student-athlete does not see a physician.
 Reports and secures approval from the Activities Director of all adults associated with their sport.
 Submits athlete rosters to the Activities Director one week before the first game, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics, and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (the list includes the number of awards earned and the class of the athlete.).
 Consult with the Activities Director regarding any off-season training programs.
 Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
 Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
 Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students, parents, community, staff, and the media.
 Attends or delegates attendance of Assistant Coach to all League Coaches meetings.
 Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
 Attends work regularly and is punctual.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

 All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications
 Some experience as a head coach at the high school or college level is preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.


Term:

 Serves from year to year on the recommendation of the Activities Director. The amount of the supplement is based on the guidelines for Extracurricular Activities and the number of years of known or documented experience.

The employee must have the ability to teach proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

Duties may be occasionally performed on trips away from school. The noise level
in the work environment is usually moderate.
