AECOM is seeking a Traffic Engineer to be based in Denver, CO.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops plan, specification, and estimate (PS&E) packages for various transportation projects.
  • Performs traffic signal design for various state and local agencies using national, state and local standards and guidance.  Provides fiber optic connections and coordinate with utilities to complete the design.  
  • Analyzes intersections for operational, capacity and safety issues and recommends improvements.
  • Performs signal warrant analysis.
  • Using MUTCD, state and local standards, develops construction phasing plans.
  • Designs signing and striping plans.
  • Works with our transportation and structures group to coordinate various design activities to meet schedule and budget.
  • Performs QC reviews as needed.
  • Analyzes the need for overhead sign structures along with the size and coordinates with the structures group to address the design needs.
  • Performs safety analysis using the Highway Safety Manual and software and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Prepare reports summarizing findings from analysis. 
  • Knowledge and experience with MicroStation and traffic engineering software like VISSIM, HCS, Synchro, Rodel, Sidra, HSM etc.
  • Guide and develop junior engineers with traffic engineering design.  Reviews their work and provides comments.
  • Provides day to day mentoring in the day-to-day tasks of junior engineers.
  • Assists project managers in the development of scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules 
  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments
  • Works collaboratively with other discipline leads in the Denver office to perform business development activities such as identification of project opportunities, marketing clients, making technical presentations at conferences, assisting with proposal preparation, and assisting with recruiting efforts.
  • Assists project managers in the development of scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules.    


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree plus four (2) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in technical execution of tasks for traffic engineering projects with an emphasis of traffic signal design, intersection analysis, PS&E packages, and safety analysis of all modes of transportation and facility types.
  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience with MicroStation
  • Expertise with Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, and HSM
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Proficiency writing reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
  • Knowledge of ITS and SEA analysis for ITS.
  • Experience in traffic design software like HCS, synchro, etc. 
  • Experience in supporting business development activities including preparing project proposals and firm marketing
  • Experience in task/project management, staff oversight, application and development of technical skills, and experience working directly with internal and external clients
  • Experience in mentorship and development of traffic engineering interns and/or entry level staff
