Job Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the District’s cyber security posture and processes. The position serves as MPS’s lead resource for systems security design and implementation, responds to security incidents, and coordinates the work of technology security staff and operations.

The salary range is $72,584 – 104,543 (12 months/260 days)

This position may allow for a hybrid remote work schedule (work from home for a portion of the workweek) within the state of Wisconsin.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years of experience in systems or network administration, software engineering, and enterprise security management performing duties related to this position.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as GSEC desired.
  • Ability to write technical specifications, operational and end user documentation.
  • Familiarity with security tools (SIEM, Endpoint protection, Forensics, Firewalls, Vulnerability Scanners, Penetration Testing, etc.).
  • Familiarity with mobile device management tools such as SCCM, Intune, Google Workspace, JAMF, Mosyle, or similar.
  • Ability to identify relevant projects and tasks and delegate assignments as needed.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to support planned and unplanned outages and upgrades.
  • Strong analytical abilities and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of vendors and staff.
  • Must be able to meet multiple deadlines set with varying deadlines.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees security functions of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure, including, but not exclusive to the following systems: physical and virtual Windows servers, WMware, and Linux based servers, Cisco network switches and routers, Active Directory including group policy, Palo Alto firewalls, content filtering, and cloud systems such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Responsible for security at the network, sever and application level on all desktop and mobile computing platforms including Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS.
  • Provides guidance on design, implementation, administration, and enforcement of information security controls to application systems and tools, including network security and monitoring, intrusion prevention, intrusion and endpoint detection and response, virus protection, and identity and access management.
  • Reviews and enforces systems access under the principle of least privilege (PoLP) .
  • Provides Tier 2 support for District account creation and modifications including troubleshooting of directory services, batch processing of user accounts and importing account information from source systems.
  • Develops and implements security measures to safeguard files and data against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Coordinates the work of technology security staff, operations, and processes.
  • Coordinates implementation of vendor-issued security patches for network, server and software applications.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the current cyber threat landscape, cyber security product categories and their application, and available and emerging technologies.
  • Develops best practices for organizational security by leading the District’s cyber awareness program.
  • Performs annual penetration testing of the District network systems and coordinates vulnerability remediation.
  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and responds to all security-related incidents.
  • Assists with internal and external audits.
  • Attends meetings to provide technical expertise and project updates.
  • Creates, verifies, and maintains documentation of assigned information systems.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining the district’s Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Participates in systems on-call rotation.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
