Description

General Summary:

Reporting to the Hospice Billing Administrator. Responsible for providing billing database support for all billing functions. Works closely with the clinical team to resolve billing errors related to clinical documentation. Supports daily operations of billing activity with billing team and administrative support. Provides back up assistance to the main hospice phone line.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required

  • Two years college degree preferred but not required with experience working in a business office or equivalent. Combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and dependability.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

Sedentary – Light Work – Lifting up to 15 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes). While work is mostly done sitting, a certain amount of walking or standing is often necessary.

Essential Job Functions

Performance Measure

Verify patient eligibility

Verify patient’s insurance eligibility

Initiates prior authorizations as needed

Medicaid process

Maintain and process Medicaid enrollments

Enter monthly claims for adjudication

Vendor payment processing

Review and process claims for payment

Initiate denial letters for outside vendors

Patient/Family support

Field calls or inquiries from patients and/or families regarding insurance

Field calls or inquiries from patients and/or families regarding billed services

Death Certificate processing

Facilitate death certificate processing

Troubleshoot death certificate issues with medical director

Demonstrates effective communication skills and cooperation with team members in a respectful manner.

Interacts in a calm, courteous and professional manner aligned with our standards of behavior.

Back up for main Hospice phone line

Answers incoming hospice phone calls and transfers them appropriately to the Hospice Team. Multitasking, organization and professional phone etiquette skills are required.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
