SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The primary purpose and function of the Chief of Staff is to lead, develop, and manage associate veterinarians in their hospitals to ensure that quality care is delivered and expected hospital performance measures are met. This role involves driving culture and consistency in care by the veterinary provider team (DVM, CVT, VA) to align with the six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Act as Responsible Veterinarian for Veterinary and Pharmacy Board Permits as required by law.
  • Own doctor engagement and retention, ensuring a proactive strategy and supportive culture.
  • Oversee the coaching program for newly hired veterinarians to ensure an engaging experience.
  • Recruit veterinary talent in partnership with the Director of Veterinary Quality and Talent Acquisition.
  • Work with associate doctors to achieve productivity goals through high-quality medicine.
  • Deliver veterinary operations KPI's through leadership and partnership with practice managers.
  • Develop a veterinary leadership talent bench and maintain a succession plan.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical essentials, government regulations, and industry standards.
  • Validate skills of veterinary assistants and technicians; develop plans to address gaps.
  • Champion preventive care culture and drive client service excellence.
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and requests with the Director of Veterinary Quality.
  • Deliver high-level veterinary care while ensuring excellent client and pet experiences.
  • Establish trust and confidence with clients through effective preventive care and treatment plans.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Prolonged computer work and project deadlines may require over 40 hours per week.
  • Ambulatory skills and physical capability to perform duties within the hospital.
  • Exposure to pets, anesthesia, radiation, and biological hazards.
  • Some travel required for hospital assistance and education.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
  • Veterinary license and eligibility for licensure with applicable state boards.
  • 3 years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice.
