Position Summary
The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist plays a critical role in the success of the Accounts Payable department by leading daily AP operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in invoice processing and payments. This role will also support the initial phase of vendor invoice preparation including mailed and electronic invoices, create check vouchers, and assist with department logistics such as postage, office equipment, and supply management as needed. In addition to core AP responsibilities, the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist will provide leadership to the AP team by offering training, guidance, and coverage during staff absences. The position requires a high level of reliability, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This individual will help drive automation efforts and ensure all vendors are transitioned to electronic payments.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Review, process, and obtain approval for vendor invoices and check vouchers in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Lead day-to-day AP operations and serve as the point of contact for escalated AP issues.
- Train new AP team members and provide ongoing support to ensure process consistency and compliance.
- Provide coverage and support during team member absences to maintain workflow continuity.
- Assist with automating AP payment processes and workflows to increase accuracy and reduce manual intervention.
- Assist with ensuring all payees are transitioned to electronic payment methods.
- Support with analyzing accounts payable reports and recommend process improvements.
- Assist Accounts Payable management with special projects, audits, and the preparation of analytical and financial reports, including month end, quarter end, year-end closing requirements and 1099 reporting.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- 5+ years of experience in accounts payable or financial operations, with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Strong working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Proficiency in Electronic payment processing and banking system integrations.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proven ability to train and mentor team members.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent skills in Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- College degree in Finance, Accounting or Business (preferred)
- Ability to independently make decisions
- Team player with Can-Do-Attitude
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to work in an office, hybrid, or remote setting according to business needs
