We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team to assist in our financial operations, including trust accounts, in compliance with BAR rules.

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to play a key role in our firm's accounting and finance operations. This position is responsible for managing core general ledger functions, participating significantly in the month-end close process, preparing financial reports, and performing reconciliations. In addition to core accounting duties, this role will have added responsibilities supporting the firm's daily treasury operations, including cash monitoring, bank reconciliations, and payment processing support. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of GAAP, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced legal environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage general ledger accounting related to treasury activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining chart of accounts, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Perform timely reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including complex accounts requiring investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Play a key role in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and results are accurate.
  • Perform variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) and provide insightful commentary on financial performance.
  • Assist with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes or oversight as needed.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and firm policies.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements within the accounting function.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations of client trust accounts (IOLTA), ensuring strict compliance with Georgia State Bar rules and firm procedures.
  • Prepare daily cash position reports for management review.
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for operating and other firm accounts.
  • Assist with the initiation and verification of electronic payments (wires, ACH) ensuring proper approvals and controls are followed.
  • Support cash flow forecasting by providing data and assisting with analysis.
  • Monitor positive pay exceptions and other bank fraud prevention tools.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all banking partners.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • CPA license or active CPA candidate status is strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proven experience with complex account reconciliations, particularly bank reconciliations, is essential.
  • Familiarity with trust accounting principles and IOLTA regulations is a significant plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 is required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
