Senior Mechanical Engineer – Machines, Tooling and Parts

Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of MetalForming equipment from concept to completion.
  • Perform calculations to predict and analyze the forming of metal parts produced from various metal types.
  • Provide technical support to customers, including explaining and defending proposed machine designs.

Essential Skills And Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a design engineer with a strong background in industrial machinery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Experience in the machine building or MetalForming industries is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including material selection and design for manufacturability.
  • Proficient with 3D and 2D design software (Inventor or AutoCAD preferred).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design MetalForming equipment from initial concept to completion, utilizing reference machines as needed.
  • Perform force and material strength calculations to ensure design integrity.
  • Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, and suppliers to meet project objectives.
  • Explain the company’s technology to customers and perform sales engineering tasks, including developing concepts and layouts.
  • Recommend and implement design modifications to enhance performance, reduce timelines, and control costs.
  • Investigate system malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions, providing technical justification for decisions.
  • Assist in coordinating and monitoring all aspects of machine production, including selecting manufacturing methods, designing, and fabricating tooling and fixtures.
  • Review and refine functional test procedures and testing methods.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems is highly desirable.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods with occasional walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Personal Protective Equipment (Shop or Field Areas)

  • Safety glasses or side shields when working in manufacturing areas.
  • Safety-toed (steel-toed) shoes or closed-toe, low-heeled shoes as required.

Work Conditions

  • Fast-paced work environment with frequent interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration, loud noise, moving parts, artificial lighting, and manufacturing debris in the manufacturing area.
