As part of our claims team, you’ll play a key role in managing personal lines claims from start to finish. You’ll collaborate across departments and with outside partners to uncover the facts, apply policy coverage, and ensure each claim is handled with precision and care.
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Coverage Evaluation: Review first notices of loss and policy information to confirm coverage. When needed, you’ll prepare reservation of rights or disclaimer letters.
- Thorough Investigations: Collect key facts through interviews, site inspections, and evidence review to assess liability and damages.
- Adjuster Oversight: Coordinate with independent adjusters, providing guidance and managing the investigation process from start to finish.
- Legal Analysis: Apply statutory and case law to determine liability exposure and promote equitable sharing of responsibility among involved parties.
- Reserve Accuracy: Monitor and update reserves to reflect ongoing claim developments.
- File Handling: Manage your claims proactively, negotiate settlements, and work directly with claimants, attorneys, and defense counsel.
- Clear Reporting: Prepare internal reports and documentation for reinsurance and leadership, including serious loss updates and coverage position letters.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to share insights and contribute to ongoing product development.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially around liability and damages
- Clear and confident communication skills—both written and verbal
- A strategic and assertive approach to negotiation and decision-making
- The ability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively
- Solid understanding of insurance coverage, negligence, and claim evaluation
Qualifications:
- Associate Claims Examiner: 2+ years of relevant experience
- Claims Examiner: 7+ years of relevant experience
- Background in roles such as examiner, adjuster, paralegal, or attorney is strongly valued
- Preferred Experience: Personal lines claims handling
- Bonus points for multi-jurisdictional knowledge, a JD, or other advanced degrees
