SUMMARY

The California Emerging Infections Program (CEIP) is a program administered by Heluna Health. It is one of twelve EIP sites nationwide, which serve as a national resource for surveillance, prevention, and control of emerging infectious diseases. CEIP functions under a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is a collaborative effort involving the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and several local health departments.

The successful candidate will be assigned to work on the mpox vaccine effectiveness project. The candidate will assist the project coordinator by conducting interviews to collect data, entering the data into REDCap, and assisting the project coordinator with outreach to clinics and community-based organizations for control recruitment. It will be very helpful if the candidate has had experience working with clinics offering services to people with sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They will be conducting telephone interviews of cases and controls using standardized forms. Study protocols may require interviews to be conducted in the evenings or on weekends. These may be conducted from home using a program-provided cell phone.

The pay rate for this role is $22.89 per hour.

Employment is provided by Heluna Health. This role is hybrid.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist project coordinator in data collection and data entry
  • Telephone interviews of case- and control-patients using standardized questionnaires and recording/coding responses
  • Data entry of standardized questionnaires
  • Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

Educational Requirement: College degree in related areas such as Biology, Health Science, Public Health or Microbiology.

  • A keen interest in infectious disease epidemiology
  • Ability to enter data accurately with minimal supervision
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to work independently or in a team environment
  • Experience using a PC
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel and Access)

Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience working with protected health information and maintaining patient confidentiality preferred
  • Experience interviewing patients with structured questionnaires for research purposes preferred
  • Some microbiology coursework preferred
  • Experience with telephone calls, cold calling is preferred
  • Knowledge of STI disease control follow up is preferred
  • Data management skills preferred
  • Experience with REDCap and Qualtrics preferred
