LABORATORY ANIMAL RESOURCES (IN-LARS-IUINA)
Job Summary
- Provides routine care for laboratory animals and breeding colonies (feeding and watering)
- Monitors animal health and observes for overt signs of disease and reports any changes to supervisor and veterinary staff
- Handles, restrains, and transfers animals as directed
- Performs euthanasia and disposes of remains and/or carcasses
- Provides occasional assistance in basic procedures such as maintaining animal and experimental records, collecting specimens for diagnostic or environmental controls, and assisting with treatments as directed by veterinary staff
- Participates in receiving, storing and rotating feed, bedding, and other animal care supplies and equipment
- Assists higher level Animal Care Technicians, facility supervisors, veterinary staff, and facility users as directed
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 6 months of animal care experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) Certificate within 1 year from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires the ability to move about for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements, and operate equipment, tools, or controls. It also requires the ability to move items weighing up to 40 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential duties with or without an accommodation.
