Position Description:

The Office of Sponsored Programs Administration & Compliance is seeking to hire a Research Contracts Specialist III to oversee Sponsored Programs Administration's (SPA) review and negotiation of non-financial research agreements, including but not limited to non-disclosure agreements, data use agreements, and memorandums of understanding, ("Agreements"). Oversee Office of Research and Administration (ORI) OSPA Field Placement Course with the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law ("Law School Externship"), which includes oversight of both practicum and academic aspects of the Law School Externship. Oversight of this core includes training and educating Law School Externs, assigning agreements to Law School Externs, and assisting Law School Externs in the negotiating and drafting of Agreements. Oversight of the Agreements includes working with the Negotiation Core Assistant Director to delegate and manage overflow of Agreements to the Negotiation Core. This position will also perform Contract Specialist job duties for the Negotiation Core, with a focus on high complexity projects. This position supports basic and applied/translational research including animal and human subject research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Train Law Students to review and negotiate non-financial agreements quickly and effectively. Serve as a guide to answer questions, offer insight and organize responsibilities. Plan and implement academic exercises for Law Student Externship. Evaluate law students at end-of-term as required by the Law School Externship.
  • Compile project metrics and perform data management for the Non-financial Agreements Core
  • Answer or oversee responses to inquiries, both internal and external.
  • Establish best practices within Core, coordinate with other cores to establish best practices across cores, and coordinate with other SPA cores and university offices as necessary to review and negotiate Agreements (i.e., Office of Technology Transfer (OTT), privacy office).
  • Advise Negotiation Core and Award Administration Core on applicable terms found in Agreements (e.g., Confidentiality terms).
  • Maintain a Contracts Specialist project docket, with the duties and responsibilities thereof.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • 5-7 years of experience in the Research Administration field. Commensurate experience outside the Research Administration field may be used.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating transactional agreements.
  • Familiarity with research laws and regulations, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Common Rule, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clauses, KY Board of Claims Act, etc.
  • Previous operation management or project management experience.
  • Experience with diverse types of proposals, grants, and contracts.
Target Compensation Maximum:

$98,100.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$65,400.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
