Position Summary
The associate position will be a part of the Research team, based in the Washington, DC office.
While RAs are primarily focused on Research, all Strategy Group members are asked to contribute and support across all Strategy Business Capabilities as needed. Additionally, they are expected to produce their own organic, highly impactful ideas. This position requires a team-oriented, self-driven person with very strong organization and relationship building skills, who can work on complex problems, is flexible, willing to learn, and is consistently applying creativity and independent judgment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position will begin as part-time with flexible working hours primarily within Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Upon successful transition to Strategy Associate, this will be a full-time position of 40 hours a week. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office setting.

Travel requirements are: 10%

Roles and Responsibilities
- Work with Strategy and Research staff to aid the Metrea enterprise and external clients in understanding and optimizing ways to solve "wicked problems" in national security.
- Develop, lead, and resource research and analysis projects covering multiple regions and domains.
- Seek out solutions to challenges by developing and owning processes and products end to end.
- Write qualitative and quantitative analysis and brief product to senior leaders across the organization.
- Manage Research team assets, subscriptions, and products, including engagement and outreach to stakeholders.
- Assist in the management and mentorship of strategy interns.
- Lead data collection and implementation for strategic force structure and budget analysis tooling.
- Have a strong interest and previous experience in national security.
- Have a self-starter mentality, excellent communication and team-building skills, strong work ethic, a genuine willingness to learn and improve.
- Demonstrate the ability to systematically respond to requests for information in a timely manner, while blending flexibility with disciplined execution to manage competing demands.
- Well-developed sense of judgment and maturity, with a high intellectual curiosity, strong critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and discipline, with a high sense of reliability, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Understanding of Metrea's problem space, mission themes, capabilities, and offerings, and willingness to learn more.
- Willingness to learn and develop professionally, eventually serving as a teacher to others in your areas of expertise.
- Demonstrated intellectual humility, high levels of emotional intelligence, and an innate ability to challenge own thinking and adjust to others.
- Bachelor's Degree with quantitative coursework or projects.
- 5 years of work experience (post-college) in a national security-related field.
- Prior experience within the National Security environment (think tanks, government service, etc.)
- Strong familiarity with the Indo-Pacific Region, operational challenges, and regional force structures
- Experience with large scale data analysis and advanced analytic tools (R, Python, SQL, etc.)
- Proficiency with MS office software suite.
- Computer Skills: Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, ability to troubleshoot intermediate software problems
- Experience interacting with senior leaders internally and externally in the national security community in a professional manner.
- Master's Degree with relevant coursework or commensurate experience.
- Familiarity with wargaming and operations research techniques.
- Strong understanding of the US DoD budget process.
