The ideal candidate will be responsible for the study, analysis, and improvement of materials, particularly metals, to ensure the highest quality, performance, and safety standards in manufacturing processes. As a Metallurgist Engineer, you will focus on selecting, testing, and evaluating materials used in various engineering applications, working closely with production, quality assurance, and research teams.

Requirements

How Would You Accomplish This?

  • Analyze and test metals and other materials to determine their properties, structure, and performance under different conditions.
  • Develop, implement, and improve metallurgical processes for the production of materials.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to recommend material choices based on performance requirements and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure that materials meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct failure analysis and investigate causes of material defects or performance issues.
  • Design and oversee experiments to test the performance and properties of various metals.
  • Review and interpret data from tests and experiments to make informed recommendations on material use and improvement.
  • Assist in the development of new materials or processes for specialized applications.
  • Provide technical support to production teams in resolving metallurgical problems during the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest advancements in metallurgy, material science, and relevant industry standards.
  • Prepare detailed reports, technical documents, and presentations for internal teams and external clients.

What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in metallurgy, material science, or related engineering fields (5+ years preferred).
  • Strong understanding of materials properties, including mechanical, thermal, and electrical behavior of metals.
  • Experience with material testing techniques and equipment (e.g., hardness testing, microstructure analysis, tensile testing, chemical analysis, metallurgical testing).
  • Knowledge of metallurgical processes, such as casting, forging, welding, heat treatment, and corrosion prevention.
  • Casting experience working with a melt department / shop
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASTM, ISO, AWS).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in using simulation software and other metallurgical tools.
  • Familiarity with advanced materials and emerging technologies in metallurgy.
  • Experience in failure analysis and root cause investigation.
  • Experience with CAD software and material modeling tools.
  • Experience with capital expense projects and onboarding new equipment.
  • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues related to materials.
