Your Role
The Activity Center Aide duties will include but not be limited to:
- Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating activities for therapeutic recreation programs
- Accurately prepare program planning forms and submit in a timely manner
- Professionally communicate with internal and external customers
- Skillfully employ behavior management techniques
- Diligently provide supervision and care to program participants
- Skillfully assist participants with activities of daily living (ADL’s) and self-help skills
- Properly lift and transfer participants
- Willingly substitute in programs as requested
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Some high school or GED. 16 years or older, plus at least 240 hours of related volunteer or work experience in youth related programs such as babysitting, camps, church groups, scouting, coaching, etc.; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Therapeutic Recreation Programs & Inclusion Services prefer volunteer or work experience with special needs populations. At programs providing direct child care, convictions of any barrier crime set forth in Virginia Code 63.2- 1719 shall be an automatic disqualification for employment in this position. At child care program locations licensed by the Virginia State Department of Social Services additional qualifications are determined by the current state standards and guidelines.
Special Instructions:
The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities. Schedules will be adjusted seasonally and will vary weekly based on events, facility coverage, and weather.
Maximum scheduled average hours up to 27 hours per week.
As a condition of employment, all part-time employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided your training date at the time of hire.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
