Position Summary

The Specialty Pharmacy Coordinator is responsible for assuring the provision of specialty pharmacy retail services for SGMC Health in accordance with all State and Federal Laws. This role will coordinate between the oncology department and its pharmacy service and the Medical Center Pharmacy for the prior authorization, proper filling, patient counseling, documentation, and reimbursement of specialty pharmacy medications (high cost take-home medications for our patients receiving care in the oncology center). Other areas of responsibility will include pre-screening patients for treatment suitability as well as viable payment source, managing reimbursement issued associated with these high-cost medications, identifying opportunities for improving reimbursement from payers, compiling reports for contract optimization, completing the necessary paperwork for prior authorizations, and conducting retrospective utilization reviews on cases of payment denials or insufficient reimbursement. Participation in the quality management program is also expected (as detailed under the Competencies section).

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy and currently licensed as such by the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Pharmacist working in a specialty role.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pharmacy services appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by our patient groups (i.e., neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric).
  • Knowledge of retail drug distribution systems and software and outpatient oncology infusion systems and software preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Much of the time requires considerable effort, either physical or mental. Constant standing or walking with regular periods of concentration. Continuous concentration on detailed orders, reports, calculations or procedures is required. Considerable mental effort, ability to organize and manage in a confined high stress environment. Close review of work is necessary with considerable supervision of job functions and routines. Comfortable conditions with the possibility of irregular schedules, exposure to certain levels of stress and subject to injury limited to minor burns, cuts, or bruises. Possible exposure to hazardous materials.
