Field Application Scientist/Senior Field Application Scientist

Spear Bio is building out our very first Field Application Team, and looking for a dynamic, client-facing individual with hands-on experience in immunoassay development, to perform in-depth, technical assay troubleshooting for customers and enhance product performance. The FAS/Sr. FAS will be the primary liaison for strategic and high-value customer accounts and work with the Head of Application Support to influence strategy, planning, and cross-functional collaborations. The FAS/Sr. FAS will become a subject matter expert on Spear Bio's ultrasensitive immunoassay platform, technology, and applications. This role is located in Woburn, MA and will be based onsite when not traveling.

Responsibilities

  • Manages pre- and post-sales technical interactions onsite at customer; delivers product demos and trainings
  • Technical account management for key customers.
  • Supports and trains application scientists within partner organizations, ensuring high quality development and delivery of technical presentations and trainings to distributor accounts.
  • Works cross-functionally to create technical documentation and marketing collateral, generate data and author IFUs, product data sheets, application notes, and conference presentations.
  • Provides deep scientific product expertise to troubleshoot customer assay challenges. Triages issues, performs experiments and investigations, and identifies solutions.
  • Works with the Head of Applications Support to implement efficient systems for tracking customer success, and collects feedback for continuous improvement of products and technical support.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of competitors and key product applications. Works with Product Management to provide voice-of-customer feedback on product improvements and strategies that will drive adoption of Spear Bio products.

Qualifications: 

  • PhD/MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or Bioengineering with 5+ years of direct industry experience as R&D Scientist or Applications Scientist developing and delivering immunoassays and qPCR services or products to customers
  • Strong bench experience developing, validating, and optimizing immunoassay or qPCR applications, technologies, methods, and strategies
  • Liquid handling and automated assay experience preferred
  • Experience developing novel techniques, software, and/or instrumentation for specific biomarker applications to enable research & development or clinical programs
  • In-depth knowledge of neurology or immunology with a strong network in drug development, academic, and contract research world preferred

  • Experience teaching and mentoring others with the ability to convey scientific information in a clear and concise manner through written documents and in-person presentations
  • Strong ability to influence others, work collaboratively and in teams, balance competing priorities, and adapt quickly to changes
  • Ability to travel up to 40-50%  (primarily East Coast, including overnights), with occasional international travel. A lot of travel is local to Greater Boston, but requires flexibility for overall travel throughout East Coast.
  • This role will be working onsite from our Woburn, MA lab when not traveling.
