We are searching for an Assistant Director for Civic and Community Engaged Learning. The position provides leadership and support to the curricular engagement opportunities within VT Engage, centered around civic leadership and community engagement for students inside and outside of the classroom.

Responsibilities

1) You will join VT Engage - The Center for Leadership and Service Learning. VT Engage enhances the student experience by providing leadership education, civic engagement, service learning, and food access opportunities within the Virginia Tech and New River Valley community, nationally, and globally.


2) You will report to the Associate Director of VT Engage, in a regular, full-time, 100% Administrative Professional appointment.


3) The Assistant Director for Civic and Community Engaged Learning plays a vital role within Student Affairs and the university at large, developing and overseeing curricular engagement opportunities that promote civic leadership and community involvement for students, both inside and outside the classroom. This position leads efforts to support the Faculty Fellows Program, including recruitment, selection, and ongoing support.


Additionally, the Assistant Director will be an active participant in a Student Affairs team focused on the campus-wide implementation of civic leadership initiatives and programming, such as Perspectives, a Constructive Dialogue Institute Program. This Assistant Director will manage the logistical aspects of student engagement grants including recruitment, on-boarding, and assessment.


This assistant director will also supervise student employees as needed to engage in curricular learning and research opportunities in the spirit of Ut Prosim. Key initiatives overseen by the Assistant Director include impactful programs like Perspectives, the Faculty Fellows Program, and student engagement grants.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in teaching, non-profit management, higher education, public administration, or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated success in working with academic faculty, especially in support of curricular community engaged learning.

• Demonstrated experience in small and large group facilitation, especially in support of dialogue across difference skill building.

• Evidence of effective partnership development and management.

• Demonstrated collaboration and engagement with individuals from assorted backgrounds and multicultural communities, within and across organizational boundaries.

• Supervisory experience of student staff or volunteers.


Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of student development theories.

• Experience developing partnerships with student affairs areas or community-based organizations.

• Knowledge of assessment of student learning or community impact.
