Scion Executive Search has been retained to conduct the search for a new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on behalf of our client, The Asher House, a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare and creating lasting impact through innovative programs and community engagement.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Asher House seeks a visionary nonprofit leader skilled in driving organizational success and empowering a passionate, high-performing team. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will have overall management responsibility for a growing nonprofit with significant potential for expansion. This individual will be charged with leading the organization through its next phase of growth, scaling operations, and advancing the mission of animal welfare.
Combining inspirational leadership and sophisticated management abilities, the CEO will advance the organization in terms of culture, capability, processes, and impact. While working closely with the organization's leadership team, the CEO will inspire innovation and ensure that The Asher House continues to make meaningful contributions to animal welfare and community engagement.

Founded by Lee Asher, who traveled across 49 states promoting dog adoption and collaborating with various shelters and rescues, the sanctuary was established to fulfill a visionary mission of creating a haven where animals could feel treasured, protected, and free.
The organization provides sanctuary to a diverse range of animals, including dogs, cows, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, and horses, embodying the fundamental belief that all animals deserve a second chance at a new life. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership and Organizational Management
- Provide visionary executive leadership that is transparent and empowering
- Oversee day-to-day operations and strategic growth of the organization
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
- Build and lead a high-performing team
- Navigate organizational transformation and rapid growth
- Implement robust performance metrics and operational processes
- Lead comprehensive fundraising initiatives
- Cultivate major donor relationships
- Develop strategic corporate sponsorships
- Work closely with the founder to leverage social media and community engagement
- Diversify revenue streams
- Create and execute a robust development strategy
- Provide strategic financial oversight
- Manage a scaling $10M organizational budget
- Develop financial forecasting and reporting processes in partnership with the CFO
- Ensure financial sustainability and operational efficiency
- In partnership with the founder, serve as a primary spokesperson for The Asher House
- Communicate impact effectively to diverse stakeholders
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships
- Represent the organization at key events and conferences
- Maintain a transparent and collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors
- Provide regular organizational updates and strategic insights
- Support Board decision-making processes
- Align organizational strategy in collaboration with the Board of Directors
- 5+ years of executive leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Proven experience in animal welfare, coupled with unwavering ethical integrity, transparency, and a deep commitment to The Asher Houses mission
- Demonstrated success managing an organizational budget of $5M+ (preferably $10M+)
- Established success managing teams of 50+ employees in a complex, evolving environment
- Experience diversifying revenue streams and leading successful fundraising initiatives, including major donor cultivation, grants, and corporate sponsorships
- Strong financial acumen, including oversight of budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Experience developing organizational strategy and driving long-term sustainability
- Startup experience strongly preferred
- High emotional intelligence to navigate relationships, including a professional partnership with the founder
- Proven ability to lead and scale an organization experiencing rapid growth and transformation
- Strong change management skills to professionalize operations and improve staff performance
- Experience developing leadership teams and fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration
- Ability to partner with the founder to leverage social media and community engagement for donor growth
- West Coast location preferred or willingness to relocate
