Position Overview

VOW Transportation is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Housing Inspector to support the Inspections Manager with critical tasks related to coordinating, conducting, and documenting housing inspections across multiple grant-funded programs. The Housing Inspector will assist in ensuring units meet required health, safety, and quality standards and that inspection processes run efficiently and accurately. This role is crucial to helping tenants and property owners maintain compliance, promote safe living environments, and streamline program operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial, annual, re-inspection, complaint, and quality control inspections for tenant-occupied and vacant housing units according to program standards.
  • Document inspection findings thoroughly and accurately using the designated system or software.
  • Assist the Inspections Manager in scheduling and coordinating inspection appointments with clients, landlords, and vendors.
  • Support the review and verification of passed/failed inspections and recommend follow-up actions when necessary.
  • Ensure all inspections are conducted in compliance with grant requirements, regulations, and company protocols.
  • Provide timely inspection reports and ensure that all supporting documentation is complete and submitted promptly.
  • Identify and document deficiencies and explain corrective actions needed to property owners and tenants professionally.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of training guides, educational collateral, and materials for tenants and property owners regarding home management and maintenance.
  • Help reconcile invoices from vendors and submit accurate notes to the finance team.
  • Follow existing protocols and contribute to continuous staff development by participating in training sessions and meetings.
  • Maintain an organized, professional communication approach when interacting with clients, owners, staff, and external partners.
  • Perform other inspection-related administrative and support duties as assigned by the Inspections Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional education or certifications related to housing quality or inspections preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in property inspections, housing management, construction, or related field.
  • Knowledge of housing quality standards (HQS), Uniform Physical Condition Standards (UPCS), or similar guidelines is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply regulatory guidelines and building codes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with inspection management software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Professional, diplomatic approach when dealing with clients, owners, and team members.
