POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title:
Museum Operations Supervisor Department: Security Reports To: Security Operations Manager Status: Full Time, Non-exempt Salary: $23.10 hourly
OVERVIEW
Support the Phillips Collection (TPC) Security Department in safeguarding the permanent collection and exhibitions, managing museum access, overseeing special event security, and implementing safety protocols. Utilize interpersonal skills and professionalism to supervise staff, conduct training, prepare reports, and assist in daily operations. Flexibility in scheduling and readiness to respond to emergencies are essential. Specific focus areas will be assigned based on experience and technical skills
This position offers flexibility and will play a vital role in supporting both internal and external events. The selected candidate will work closely with the Events Supervisor and collaborate with departments including Advancement, Public Programs, Education, and Music to manage event-related logistics and requests
As a front-facing role, this position will require regular interaction with colleagues, guests, and vendors overseeing load-in/load-out procedures, addressing security concerns, and assisting with staffing and operational needs as they arise
SCHEDULE
Typical hours will be from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with flexibility required to support operations as needed
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure safety and security of museum staff, visitors, artwork, and property.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule security staff.
  • Manage day-to-day security activities and automated systems.
  • Enforce museum access policies and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Monitor galleries and prepare security reports.
  • Respond to emergency alarms and coordinate with authorities.
  • Facilitate emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Participate in policy and procedure development and enforcement.
  • Delegate administrative responsibilities as directed.
  • Supervise area patrols and maintain accurate records.
  • Perform additional duties to support the Security Department.
INTERNAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • A minimum of one year of service at The Phillips Collection
  • Prior experience in event planning or coordination
  • Successful completion of training in the following security roles:
    • Museum Assistant (MA)
    • Lead Museum Assistant
    • Control Room Operator
    • Part-Time Supervisor
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior museum assistant and/or museum security experience required.
  • Knowledge of security cameras and alarm systems required.
  • Strong customer service skills and technical/mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences and work under pressure.
  • Availability for all shifts, weekends, and evenings as needed.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate problems, and take corrective action.
  • Trustworthy, reliable, with clear criminal and work history.
  • Ability to meet security supervisor standards.
  • Ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods and move light furniture.
  • On occasion, depending on the tasks, may need to lift boxes, tables, chairs, or other items, potentially up to 30 lbs. with assistance.
