Description

Job Summary:

Evaluation and monitoring the health of team members and the tracking and reporting of associated data. Possess considerable knowledge of principles and practices of infection prevention and surveillance and assume responsibility for the implementation and coordination of the hospital’s IC program. This position requires effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Assists in the evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends improvement of guidelines and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed. Ensures compliance with federal standards, state regulations, Joint Commission and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Administer Post-Offer Pre-employment health questionnaire and evaluate results for candidate’s ability to perform duties as listed in each respective job description
  • Assist candidate in arranging physical examination if there is a possibility or suspicion that candidate will not be able to perform duties as listed
  • Assess need for reasonable accommodations if any permanent physical restrictions or limitations are disclosed by candidate
  • Evaluate results of 10-panel urine drug screen
  • Administer and evaluate Latex Allery Questionnaire
  • Review and evaluate Tuberculosis testing and screening
  • Review immunization data and obtain immunity titers as necessary
  • Perform Fit Testing for all candidates that may have direct contact with in-patients

Tasks:

Infection Control

Develop and update isolation techniques and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice, rules and regulations. Participate in maintaining policies and procedures which provide for a program of preventive medicine for hospital personnel to include establishment of policies and procedures relating to exposure to infectious diseases and prevention of cross-contamination. Recommend and evaluate procedures or policy statements relating to infection control within Hospital; maintain an updated reference manual on infectious diseases and hospital infection control as recommended by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospitals. Maintain a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information through peer networking. Internet access, published literature and professional meetings.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program, in the State of Oklahoma
  • Medical Technologist, degree in microbiology, public health or hospital epidemiology or related clinical health degree may be considered

Certification:

  • Certification in Infection Control (APIC or CIC) desirable

License:

  • RN (licensed in OK)

If applicant is not certified:

  • Applicant must actively pursue certification upon hire or assumption with anticipation of becoming certified within 3 years; and applicant must consult on an ongoing basis as defined by the organization with individual(s) identified by the organization as having expertise in infection prevention and control

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 yrs. direct experience in hospital laboratory, nursing, public health, or epidemiology required
  • Infection control experience highly desirable
