Position Summary:

The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of asphalt roller equipment to compact hot mix asphalt to the required specifications. The operator ensures the finished surface is smooth, uniform, and meets project specifications while following all safety guidelines and operational procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with and actively promote all Safety policies and procedures, including reporting accidents, incidents, and near-misses to adhere to the company’s core value of “Safety First.”
  • Operate asphalt roller equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring that asphalt is compacted properly to meet job specifications.
  • Perform pre- and post-operational checks on equipment, including checking fuel, hydraulic oil, water levels, and tire pressure, ensuring the equipment is in good working condition.
  • Work closely with the Foreman and Quality Control Technician to ensure rolling patterns and density specifications are met.
  • Conduct rolling operations in accordance with project specifications to achieve required compaction and avoid issues such as over-compaction or under-compaction.
  • Pinch joints, corners, and edges to ensure smooth transitions and no visible seams in the finished product.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately to the Foreman or Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the equipment, including wiping down rollers, checking for damage, and ensuring all safety features (such as back-up alarms, lights, etc.) are functioning.
  • Attend regular team meetings, including safety briefings, to stay updated on project progress and new procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the project and team.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating asphalt roller equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to endure physical labor, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and handle the demands of the job.
  • Knowledge of asphalt rolling techniques and the ability to follow complex instructions.
  • Familiarity with project specifications and an understanding of asphalt composition and compaction requirements.
