Responsibilities

The Economic Development Associate supports the Department of Planning, Neighborhoods & Development by overseeing project accounts, managing federal and special funding and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Key duties include disbursing funds, auditing program performance and providing administrative support. The Associate coordinates resources for development programs, manages grant tasks and ensures accurate reporting and adherence to compliance milestones such as expenditures and project deadlines. The role involves reviewing and preparing project reports, troubleshooting discrepancies and assisting with budget preparation and monitoring. The Associate works closely with various City departments to ensure proper record retention and provides regular financial and performance reports to management. This entry-level position offers opportunities for growth, allowing the incumbent to take on more complex responsibilities over time.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Secretarial Science, Office Management or related field AND 2 years of experience in secretarial/office management, municipal budgeting, contract compliance or grant management.

OR

High school diploma or G.E.D. AND 6 years of experience in secretarial/office management, municipal budgeting, contract compliance or grant management.

Basic knowledge of Grants and/or Grants Management is preferred.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check

A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
