The Learning Specialist will provide classroom support for teachers as well as individualized or small group support for students ages 3 - 14. In this role, you will observe students, screen basic reading and / or math skills, refer for further evaluations as needed, and analyze testing results to develop learning goals and support plans in partnership with families, teachers and administration.

Responsibilities Include
- Helping students to develop effective learning strategies that foster academic growth.
- Educating parents and teachers about learning differences.
- Providing parents and teachers with useful resources for the benefit of students.
- Assisting parents in understanding their child’s unique learning profile, participation in a learning support program, and how the program connects to classroom learning and content/curriculum mastery.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality concerning each student within and outside the school community.
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (Master's preferred).
- Hold and maintain a valid state teaching certificate.
- Experience teaching students in a variety of classes and age groups.
- Extensive knowledge of learning differences and strategies.
- Skilled in teaching Orton-Gillingham reading.
- Skilled in teaching basic mathematics and Algebra.
- Skilled in teaching the mechanics of written expression.
- Administer Informal Reading Inventories and academic tests such as the KTEA.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and school administration.
- Passion for bettering the lives of students.
- Experience as a school-based learning specialist (preferred)
- Knowledge, skills, and experience around underlying attention, memory, language, social skill, and executive functioning challenges and how they impact on learning and academic success
- Knowledge and an appreciation of child development in young children and adolescents
- Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Strong organizational and time management skills
