Assistant Building Engineer - Temporary

JOB SUMMARY: Performs general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment and grounds. Working under moderate supervision, assists in building system operations and performance. Applies several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

• Maintains all equipment per preventive maintenance programs prescribed by manufacturer's specifications
• Performs housekeeping functions and maintains the professional appearances of the property, equipment, engineering spaces, and common areas.
• Maintains an energy management program to ensure measures are taken to operate all systems in the most efficient manner to keep operating costs at a minimum.
• Inspects building systems including fire alarms and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client.
• Performs assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance. Complete maintenance and repair records as required.
• Maintains the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
• Performs welding, carpentry, furniture assembly and locksmith tasks as needed.
• Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
• Supervises 7 custodial staff.
• Serves as a backup for the Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma.
• 12 + years' experience in building management and maintenance.
• NYC Fireman Certification

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout duration of employment by NYC DOE fingerprinting process.

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.
