The Challenge
We are hiring 2 transportation worker II's to join our Sampson County Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will:
⦁    Perform maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features.
⦁    Install traffic and erosion control devices.
⦁    Clear right of ways.
⦁    Perform roadway grading and machining on unpaved roads.
⦁    Perform pavement repairs, pipe installations, and other drainage tasks.
⦁    Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks performed.
⦁    Engage in emergency response, including traffic accident clean-ups, snow and ice removal, hurricane cleanups, and other emergencies.
⦁    Operate construction equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, forklifts, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and heavy equipment.
⦁    Perform flagging operations to safely guide traffic through work zones.
⦁    Perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
  
What You Bring
⦁    Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and experience in installation of traffic controls.
⦁    Experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
⦁    Snow and ice removal operations experience.
⦁    Experience operating 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer, or sweeper.
⦁    Ability to safely operate Class A CDL-required equipment/trucks with manual and automatic transmissions within 360 days of hire.
⦁    A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Don’t have one?  STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire.)
⦁    Safety toe shoes.
  
Notes
⦁    You will be subject to outside extreme environmental conditions, including snow and ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc., and during emergency responses, plus in hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.
⦁    We will conduct a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test of your previous employers for the past 3 years for drug/alcohol abuse.
⦁    This role is subject to emergency call backs that may lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays.
 
Education & Experience
⦁    High school/GED diploma, and
⦁    3+ years of relevant experience; or
⦁    An equivalent combination of education and experience.
