Position Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist assists in the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department and payroll functions in accordance with the Heartland Health Services’ (HHS) mission, strategic goals, federal and state laws and regulations, performance and outcome objectives, and accreditation standards.
Essential Functions
- Administers the various employee benefits plans and serve as the main point of contact for employee benefit inquiries, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, health savings accounts (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), auxiliary benefits, employee assistance program (EAP), and COBRA.
- Manages the day-to-day relationship with the company's third-party leave of absence vendor to successfully administer all federal and state leaves and accommodations, including the short-term disability/long-term disability (STD/LTD) claims.
- Researches employee benefits plans and vendors to identify those that present the best value.
- Negotiates with vendors and administrators for best plans, options and rates.
- Coordinates open enrollment including system configuration of benefit plans, communications, timely processing of enrollments, and post-enrollment analysis
- Regularly interface with multiple health and welfare benefit vendors and carriers to assist employees with the resolution of benefit issues
- Provide guidance to employees and managers on the requirements and provisions of all company benefit programs and leave policies
- Maintains and audit system interfaces to ensure proper delivery of benefit information to employee benefit providers.
- Manages company Leave of Absence programs including employee communications, certification distribution and review, and reporting.
- Administers the compensation program, in conjunction with the Human Resources Manager, and makes suggestions for revisions. Participates in surveys to ensure pay scale complies with changing laws and regulations and meets the organization’s objectives.
- In coordination with HR Admin/Coordinator, maintains Human Resources Information System (HRIS) records, maintains paper filing system, and complies reports as requested.
- Works with the Compliance Department to distribute, maintain, and report on mandated personnel training and competencies.
- Assists with the development and implementation of the employee evaluation process and ensures that all employees have timely reviews.
- Assists with employee terminations/exits and employee counseling.
- Submits online investigation requests and aids in reporting follow-through and completion.
- Performs other projects and duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager.
- Supports clinic compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and HHS rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the clinical provision of medical services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
- Supports and is involved in HHS’s continuous quality improvement efforts designed to improve patient outcomes.
- Works in consultation with clinical teams, direct clinical support staff, and indirect clinical support staff to develop and implement policies and procedures that maximize patient-centered communication and services.
- Maintains and assures confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HHS’s policies.
- Reports building/equipment problems through the appropriate channels.
- Performs any clerical duty or department related task as assigned by supervisor in a continuously changing medical practice.
- Attends all staff meetings, department meetings, and any other meetings as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications or related field.
- Preferred 5-10 years of experience in Human Resources or like position.
- Previous experience in Benefits administration required.
- SHRM-SCP preferred
- Must possess exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact with employees and vendors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
