Job Description Site Operations Director – Curtis Bay Works, Baltimore, MD
Grace Curtis Bay Works consists of 6 production plants which manufacture hundreds of products from four businesses: fluid cracking catalysts, hydroprocessing catalysts, polyolefin catalysts, and silicas. Our customers rely on us for superior ongoing technical service and support. Grace professionals have a deep understanding of their customers' businesses, fundamental operational issues and the unique challenges their customers face in their local regions
Grace is a significant employer in the Curtis Bay area, with approximately 500 employees. More than half of the products manufactured at Curtis Bay are exported at a value of approximately $150 million annually
Site Operations Director is accountable for the predictability, reliability and consistency of supply from the production and logistics operations across the site, the financial performance of those units and serves as back-up for the Senior Site Director This role is on-site in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD and reports to the Senior Site Director Responsibilities
  • Lead all employees to develop a voice of the customer mindset in all aspects of their professional responsibilities
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Curtis Bay and Grace corporate functions to solve problems and implement best practices
  • Model Safety and Quality values including Critical Life Safety measures
  • Drive impactful transformation by leveraging proven change management strategies and techniques
  • Develop current and future Operations leaders through coaching, talent management and modeling best practices
  • Drive transformation and continuous improvement at every level by supporting an ownership and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Accountable for financial performance of the site and participate in monthly S&OP meetings for each business
  • Resolve resource, coordination and prioritization challenges which may include organizational changes
  • Effectively solve complex problems in day-to-day chemical operations
  • Determine and lead capital and cost reduction priorities
  • Maintain a positive relationship with Union leaders and members with a bias towards follow-through on commitments
  • Proactively engage with corporate functional centers of excellence to align on priorities (Global Operations, EHSSQ, HR)
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of operations experience in manufacturing, including leadership experience
  • Experience driving change by leveraging strategic communications site-wide and with corporate partners
  • Experience delivering on-time product which meets customer expectation
  • Large equipment / processing experience with large quantities of material movement
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Experience negotiating with unions, managing and overseeing grievances, building positive relationships
  • Experience prioritizing developing future leaders in a transformational environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading a function in a manufacturing plant of 200+ people
  • Certifications or experience in Supply Chain or Lean Six Sigma
