
The Social Video Producer is responsible for the development and production of short-form editorial content distributed on National Geographic social accounts such as TikTok and Instagram. The producer must have the ability to develop, produce, and edit engaging storytelling that aligns with National Geographic’s brand and editorial focus on science, history, animals, travel and health.
Under the supervision of the director of video, the producer will collaborate with National Geographic’s video producers and editorial staff to create primarily vertical video adapted to formats and editing styles authentic to social platforms. The producer will be responsible for pieces ranging from quick-turn pieces responding to current events to long-range evergreen stories and features.
The position also requires working with internal support departments as well as video and photo contributors. Must have a strong commitment to diversity & inclusion and editorial integrity.
Responsibilities:
Develop, produce, and edit content adapted to formats and editing styles authentic to social platforms.
Responsible for pieces ranging from quick-turn pieces responding to current event to long-range evergreen stories and features.
Strong collaboration with editorial staff, photo editors, photo and video contributors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of professional vertical video production experience (i.e. specifically with TikTok and Instagram); previous work on explainer content a plus
Ability to collaborate with editorial staff to identify stories and develop pitches
Well-defined editorial voice
Keen eye for motion graphic design and a strong visual sensibility
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, AfterEffects, Media Encoder, Illustrator)
Highly organized; ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines
Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to exercise independent judgement
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience and enthusiasm for social video content and audience on TikTok and Instagram.
Familiarity with other social platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter/X
Awareness of successful content creators for potential partnerships
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred in media production, video journalism or one of National Geographic’s core subject areas)
- Please note, this role sits in our Washington, DC office 4x/week (Monday- Thursday), working from home on Friday.
The hiring range for this position in Washington DC is $78,200.00 to $104,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
