Position Overview

The Settlement Accounting Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and optimizing the financial settlement and reconciliation processes across multiple complex payment platforms. This individual is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of daily and monthly settlement operations, including transaction reconciliations, merchant billing, and exception resolution. The role requires a strategic thinker who can blend deep technical accounting knowledge with operational execution to drive process improvements, mitigate risk, and enhance scalability. The Settlement Accounting Manager will lead a team, foster cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners, and play a key role in supporting financial close activities and audit readiness. Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead and support multiple ongoing initiatives to document, evaluate, and streamline settlement accounting processes, driving efficiency and consistency across the organization.
  • Supervise, perform, and validate daily and monthly reconciliations across all Payroc products, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies by analyzing system reports and corresponding bank data.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Operations, Product, and Client Services teams, as well as external partners, to align priorities and implement process enhancements that reduce risk and improve scalability.
  • Identify operational and financial inefficiencies, proactively propose data-driven solutions, and champion automation efforts to enhance workflow productivity.
  • Manage month-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and income statement variance analyses specific to settlement accounting functions.
  • Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records by adhering to internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit best practices.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, addressing inquiries, and ensuring compliance with established accounting standards and practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA and/or CMA certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in accounting, with a strong preference for candidates with settlement operations or fintech industry exposure.
  • Proven expertise in full-cycle accounting, including deep understanding of income statements, balance sheets, and the reconciliation process.
  • Demonstrated analytical acumen with the ability to interpret large data sets, spot trends, and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, macros) and a strong working knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).
  • Familiarity with close management tools (e.g., FloQast), collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams), and document management tools (e.g., SharePoint).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and lead or mentor team members in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving and stakeholder engagement.

Travel Component

Working Conditions

  • Extensive desk-based work involving prolonged periods using a computer and sitting for extended periods
  • Frequent interaction with team members, management, agents, Business Development Managers (BDMs), and external partners to facilitate smooth operations and collaborations
