Technical Waste Specialist

TAS Environmental Services LP We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Hazardous Waste Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the proper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of hazardous waste management practices and possess the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Technical Waste Specialist Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive hazardous waste management plans and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hazardous waste storage areas and work sites to identify and address potential safety hazards.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to personnel involved in the handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate with external agencies, such as regulatory authorities and waste disposal facilities, to ensure proper waste management practices are followed.
  • Monitor and evaluate hazardous waste management practices, procedures, and equipment to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct training sessions for employees to promote awareness and understanding of hazardous waste management protocols and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all hazardous waste management activities, including waste inventories, disposal manifests, and regulatory reports.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and provide guidance on appropriate actions to mitigate risks associated with hazardous materials incidents.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to hazardous waste management to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience in hazardous waste handling, lab packing, or environmental services is a plus.
  • HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification preferred; DOT and RCRA training is beneficial.
  • TWIC Card is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Customers, team members and supervisors
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to 60 lbs. as needed.
  • Class B CDL with HAZMAT endorsement preferred.

Technical Waste Specialist Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.
  • Excellent understanding of hazardous waste storage, transportation, and disposal techniques.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and address potential safety hazards.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, external agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using computer software and databases for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures related to hazardous materials incidents.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices and waste reduction strategies.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to occupational health and safety regulations.
