Description

The Inside Account Manager for Value Added Services is responsible for generating revenue and gross margin for the company by developing and maintaining a strong customer base in the processing division of Steel and Pipe Supply. This position utilizes relationship-based selling techniques to meet the processed steel needs of each customer, while maximizing the profitability of the company. Other sales aspects include gaining a full understanding of machinery and machine capabilities, print reading and interpretation, estimating pricing based upon the nesting of parts using specific software, maximizing material usage on each quote, and negotiation. The Inside Account Manager’s responsibilities extend beyond sales and also include heavy amounts of order entry, order tracking, and problem resolution. The most successful Inside Account Managers take full ownership of their customers and orders and go the extra mile to ensure their customers are not just satisfied, but also informed throughout the entire sales process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Configuration of processed parts using customer drawings and files and quoting using optimal material usage through nesting software
  • Interpret customer provided CAD prints and files for quoted parts/packages
  • Ability to plan and offer achievable delivery dates based on the specified production schedule
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the machines, steel products and services offered by SPS
  • Build customer relationships with new and existing accounts to maximize territory growth
  • Understand each customer’s needs, and accurately fulfill expectations for quality, delivery, and communication
  • Exhibit mentality of problem-solving that helps uncover solutions to customer needs
  • Price inquiries in a manner which maximizes revenues , with consideration to minimizing operational costs
  • Understand return on tangible capital (ROTC), and exhibit decision making abilities which align with the goals of the company
  • Engage Outside Account Managers and sales management on significant inquiries to help maximize the probability of success
  • Timely and frequent follow up with the customer regarding quotes, order tracking and other customer inquiries
  • Provide feedback related to the market conditions of the territory
  • Cooperate with teammates both within and outside the Sales Dept.
  • Assist other account managers with their daily activities when needed

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ensure professional appearance appropriate for meetings with executive level employees or clients
  • Requires ability to perform primary job responsibilities while spending long periods of time at a computer
  • Limited travel (~3 to 4 times per year)

Preferred Background, Competencies & Expertise

  • Proven experience in a role responsible for managing the needs of customers
  • Knowledge of general principals of business related to revenue generation, cost impacts and bottom-line results
  • Background in the steel industry or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related discipline or equivalent work experience
