Job Summary
The Blast Booth Operator is responsible for preparing surfaces for painting or coating by operating abrasive blasting equipment in a controlled booth environment. This role ensures that all work meets the required specifications and safety standards while maintaining efficiency and quality.

The Blast Booth Operator is responsible for preparing surfaces for painting or coating by operating abrasive blasting equipment in a controlled booth environment. This role ensures that all work meets the required specifications and safety standards while maintaining efficiency and quality.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate blasting equipment to clean, strip, and prepare metal surfaces using abrasive materials (e.g., sand, grit, shot).
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure proper cleanliness and profile.
- Load and unload parts into the blast booth using hoists, forklifts, or manually as appropriate.
- Maintain and adjust blast equipment, including replacing nozzles, hoses, and filters as needed.
- Follow safety protocols, including the use of PPE such as respirators, protective suits, and hearing protection.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the blast booth and surrounding areas.
- Document work performed and reported any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with painters, quality inspectors, and other production staff.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in abrasive blasting or surface preparation preferred.
- Forklift and overhead crane operation experience a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret job specifications, safety data sheets, and technical drawings.
- Understanding of blast media types and surface profile requirements.
- Physical stamina and strength to stand for long periods and handle heavy materials.
- Basic mechanical aptitude to maintain and troubleshoot blast equipment.
- Must be able to wear a full-face respirator for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, and confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive motions.
- Tolerate hot, cold, and humid conditions in a manufacturing environment.
- Industrial/Manufacturing setting.
- Exposure to abrasive materials and equipment noise.
- Strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols required.
