The Development Director is responsible for developing, leading, and executing La Clinica’s fundraising strategy to grow contributed income support. This position will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, grants, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, and special events. The Development Director will work in coordination with the CEO and Chief Partnership Officer to build strong relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders while aligning fundraising activities with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. While the intention is to create focus, clarity and specific role outcomes, other duties may be assigned dependent on the needs of the organization.

Accountabilities Include :
Fundraising And Revenue Growth
- Research, design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve La Clinica’s annual revenue goals and support strategic initiatives.
- Develop strong links between giving opportunities and La Clinica’s programs and services, engaging other staff and community leaders (e.g., board, advisors, service partners, etc.) in these strategies, as needed.
- Ensure that the development team continuously researches federal, state, and local public and private grant opportunities to identify new funding.
- Identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit major donors, corporate sponsors, and grant-making institutions, serving as primary solicitor for key contributed income partners.
- Research, design, implement, and evaluate personalized stewardship plans for major donors to deepen engagement and increase annual giving levels, major gifts, and endowed gifts.
- Research, design, implement, and evaluate donor engagement strategies, including direct mail campaigns, direct solicitation, online giving, and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.
- Ensure the growth of La Clinica’s endowment fund by researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating planned giving strategies, including the effectiveness of communication and marketing strategies .
- Plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising events, ensuring maximum engagement and revenue generation.
- Ensure the timely creation and submission of all fundraising proposals and reports.
- Ensure that gift acknowledgment practices inform donors of the impact of their contributions and seed future gifts and meet La Clinica policies and procedures and IRS rules and other regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners by ensuring effective engagement, cultivation, and recognition.
- Partner with La Clinica staff and community members (e.g., board, advisors, service partners) to leverage their networks for fundraising and donor cultivation.
- Coordinate with communications and community partnership staff to communicate impact and organizational successes through donor reports, newsletters, and community presentations.
- Ensure the on-time submission of all development-related proposals and reports, including progress reports, end-of-year reports, monthly updates, and annual reports to funders.
- Collaborate with the Chief Partnership Officer to align annual fundraising strategies with La Clinica’s strategic plan and growth goals.
- Lead the development team, providing coaching, guidance, and support to staff and volunteers involved in fundraising efforts.
- Work with finance, process improvement, clinical operations, and development staff to ensure clear coordination and successful execution of all development-supported opportunities, including new initiative development, project planning, budget and proposal development, project implementation, operational handoff, and project evaluation and reporting to funders and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure the effective tracking of fundraising metrics to assess progress and effectiveness and routinely provide reports to leadership.
- Utilize outcome data to hold accountability for development goals in new donor identification, donor outreach and engagement, fundraising targets, donor reporting, and other metrics, as needed.
- Stay informed on philanthropic trends and best practices to enhance fundraising efforts, strategically anticipate changes in the philanthropic giving environment, and adapt the development annual work plan to new opportunities or loss of current funding, as needed.
- Partner with the communications team to develop compelling fundraising materials, donor appeals, annual reports, and social media campaigns. Enhance the organization’s brand presence through strategic donor messaging and storytelling.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
- Preferred: Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit leadership.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience managing a development office.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
- Strong understanding of donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising best practices.
- Strong understanding of donor ethics.
- Experience in budget development and an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while independently driving fundraising initiatives.
- Passion for La Clinica’s mission and commitment to advancing its impact.
- Intermediate level experience using fundraising CRM
- Preferred: Raiser’s Edge
- Intermediate level experience using Microsoft Suite: Word, Excell, PowerPoint
- Preferred: Advanced level experience
- Novice level experience using survey software (e.g. Survey Monkey, Google Forms, Question Pro, Qualtrics)
- Preferred: Intermediate level experience
