Job Summary The Accountant I will provide accounting support involving key organizational processes such as statement reconciliation, report analysis, fund transfers, and monitoring of cost centers and projects
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages reconciliation of statements for cost centers and projects. Follow-ups and resolves any discrepancies.
- Prepares and analyzes financial and HR reports to facilitate in decision-making for the department. Meets with departmental staff.
- Monitors costs centers and projects within the department and ensures errors are fixed in a timely manner.
- Processes transfers, deposits, and provides backup for travel authorizations, expense reports, requisitions, purchase orders, and vouchers, and ProCard reconciliation.
- Serves as a liaison between the college and other departments within the university regarding financial, budgetary, or administrative processes.
- Suggest and assist in developing new accounting procedures and methods to enhance financial processes.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent work experience in accounting.
- Above to above average knowledge of Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of accounting related experience.
- Bookkeeping and budgeting experience.
- Knowledge of grant accounting.
- Knowledge of projects.
- Experience in higher education institutions.
- Experience with UT Share and PeopleSoft.
- Knowledge of UT System policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in technology, with demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail, with effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled in researching and compiling informational, financial, and statistical data.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexible and adaptable to the evolving needs of the office.
- Demonstrates initiative and exercises independent judgment.
