Job Summary

The AVP, Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Leads the forecasting, long term planning and strategic analysis for the finance team
  • Conducts financial analysis, modeling, forecasting and reporting results to ensure efficent financial operations
  • Develops and implements operating plans, including business plan and operating budget
  • Assists with evaluating facility business plans for adherence to the companies strategic plan
  • Reviews operating and financial performance of the individual facilities and makes recommendations for corrective action, if appropriate

Essential Functions

Leadership

  • Assists CFO and the executive team with strategic planning process, including analysis of portfolio, environment, product line, industry benchmarking, critical success factor quantification, multi-year financial projects, and prospective payment system (PPS) planning
  • Guides the development and implementation of the annual business planning process, including analysis of SWOT, competitor, product line, and best of class/comparative analysis, PPS planning, financial projections, environmental assumptions, demand factor forecast, payer mix/payment rate assumptions, operations improvement tactics, non-capital program development, and capital program projects. Secures regional division operating management agreement on key business plan initiatives and annual operating budget targets
  • Coordinates calendar control, template design, system updates and modifications, and presentation design and control of the annual operating budget process with regional operations teams. Ensures budget process meets business plan objectives, adheres to guiding principles, and is consistent with bottom line targets
  • Guides and directs the annual capital program process to meet business objectives and support strategic initiatives. Evaluations financial return expected from investment decisions. Provides recommendations on project/program approvals
  • Monitors the portfolio performance with regard to operating budget objectives and prior year performance. Coordinates with regional management teams the facility variance analysis process, including monthly operations reviews, isolation of accounting and timing issues, identification of operating problems impacting financial performance, identification of trends with regard to key indicators, and development of corrective action plans
  • Builds and maintains relationships with senior operating leadership with the Support Center department heads. Participates in multi-department teams to support achieving specific objectives and stays up to date on day-to-day activities
  • Directs or executes the preparation of quantitative and qualitative reports (I.e. trends, results of analysis, research findings), including monthly and quarterly financial and business performance reports. Interprets and analyzes findings or data for use in planning and supporting business activities
  • Provides direction and supervisor to senior financial analyst

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Expert accounting knowledge/proficiency
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access and various payroll related systems; SAP knowledge preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Appropriately communicates with all levels of customers from assistants to Senior Executives
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve outstanding issues

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field required
  • MBA preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • None required

Experience

  • 7 years progressive hospital/healthcare financial management, analysis, and reporting experience required; 10+ years preferred
  • Hospital field-level experience preferred
