SUMMARY:

We are seeking a results-driven and experienced Director of Quality to lead and manage all aspects of quality within our plastics manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with deep knowledge of quality systems, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment, particularly in the plastics or polymer industry. This role is pivotal in driving a culture of quality throughout the organization, ensuring that every team member is committed to maintaining the highest standards.

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute the quality strategy to ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
  • Champion a culture of quality across all levels of the organization, fostering an environment where quality is everyone's responsibility.

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Oversee the implementation, certification, and maintenance of ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards. Ensure documentation, processes, and procedures meet current industry best practices.
  • Promote continuous improvement and adherence to quality standards through regular training and engagement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, ASTM, REACH, RoHS, etc.) applicable to plastic materials and products.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing quality team including quality management, engineers, inspectors, and technicians.
  • Empower team members to take ownership of quality in their respective areas, providing coaching and support to enhance their skills and commitment.

Process Control And Improvement

  • Work closely with production, engineering, and R&D teams to establish process controls, quality metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma). Monitor and initiate improvement projects to current processes or policies.
  • Drive a proactive approach to quality improvement, encouraging innovative solutions and best practices.

Customer Focus

  • Act as the primary point of contact for major customer quality concerns, audits, and supplier quality management programs.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining high standards of quality and responsiveness.

Root Cause Analysis & CAPA

  • Lead investigations into quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Supplier Quality

  • Manage supplier quality performance, audits, and development programs to ensure raw material compliance and consistency.

Reporting & KPIs

  • Develop and monitor key quality indicators (KPIs), prepare quality reports and regular metrics for senior leadership, and support data-driven decision-making.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Collaborate with adjacent departments such as Production, Engineering, R&D, and Supply Chain to drive quality initiatives and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams to address quality challenges and implement solutions that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and support to other departments in developing and implementing quality-related processes and procedures.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business or technical field. Minimum 8 years related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of quality control practices and tools, ISO 9001, SPC, and Six Sigma.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to drive a culture of quality.
  • Ability to communicate, coach, mentor, and empower team members to succeed.
  • High level of patience and service. Ability to motivate team members.
  • Problem-solving abilities. Ability to identify waste and creatively look for solutions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask. Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff. Travel as needed.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Working Conditions: Exposure to a normal office environment. Position may occasionally require entering a production environment, including exposure to noise, fumes, moving machinery, and varied temperatures.

Positions reports to: Vice President of Engineering

This position has direct reports.
