NJ/NY Gotham FC (“Gotham FC” or “the Club”) is a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ.

The Role

Gotham FC is seeking a People & Culture Generalist that is eager to advance our professional women’s soccer team. The ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail and professional judgement, is collaborative and adaptive to change, and is able to balance operational excellence and advancement with organizational performance. This position will provide day-to-day People & Culture support across the organization, contributing to recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, compliance, training, and HR operations. You’ll be the go-to for many employee-related questions, helping foster a supportive and inclusive environment. This position works with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and requires superb written and verbal communication, professionalism, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage organizational employee growth by managing the employee life cycle including: the creation of job descriptions, offer letters, reference checks, backgrounds, I9s, eVerify, onboarding and orientation, system and company set up, employee engagement and retention, and offboarding.
  • Administer HR system, Rippling, and maintain accurate data & employee records (e.g., HRIS updates, personnel files, regulatory forms, contracts, training records, etc.).
  • Analyze HR data & trends to support goals & objectives.
  • Serve as the point of contact for HR policy questions, benefits (i.e. new enrollments, changes, and open enrollment) and other inquiries regarding the people & culture function.
  • Process benefit enrollments and changes for Club medical, dental, and vision plan.
  • Assist with leave of absence administration (FMLA, disability, parental leave, etc.).
  • Lead initiatives that promote employee engagement, recognition, and organizational culture (i.e. assist with planning employee events & wellness activities).
  • Support internal & external audits as needed.
  • Remain current in employment trends, uphold compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, policies, or relevant practices.
  • Take on generalist tasks as needed to support the needs of a growing and evolving team.

Qualifications

  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Experience with benefits administration, HRIS (ideally Rippling, but not required) and/or payroll systems, compliance, and people operations.
  • 3+ years of experience in an HR generalist or specialist role.
  • HR certification or degree in HR is nice to have, though strong work experience is just as meaningful.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources and compliance.
  • Confident problem solving, a positive attitude, people first approach to partnering with the business.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Nice to have: Comfortable working in a startup environment as part of a new and growing team.
  • Nice to have: Comfortable working within a regulated industry or for a company under another governing body, such as sports leagues or similarly regulated industries.

Location:

Based at Gotham FC’s business office, which is located at 15 Exchange Place Jersey City, New Jersey, on a hybrid working schedule which consists of three core in-office/in-person days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two non-core days (Monday and Friday), with the option of being in the business office or remote. Ability to attend all home games and any mandatory events as well as away games, as necessary. A willingness to travel for other business-related needs, as they arise. Ability to work at the team’s soccer operations office in Whippany, New Jersey, as needed. Gotham FC requires its associates to live in its market, that is, within reasonable commuting distance of Gotham FC’s offices, practice facility and Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000
