Department: OPEN HEART

Schedule: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 0630-1500 with call

Practices only as prescribed in the job description and as defined in the SGMC credentialing process.

Performs certain medical acts which include, but are not limited to, ordering drugs, treatments and diagnostic studies such as provided in O.C.G.A 43-34-26.1 and Chapter 41-0-13.

Performs those tasks which they are qualified to perform, for which the sponsoring physician has privileges, and for which protocols signed by the supervising physicians exist.

Participates in the QU and PI process and provides education and consultation services in the area of expertise.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Graduate of an accredited, post-basic educational program for physician assistants.
  • Georgia Physician Assistant License with NCCPA certification.
  • Maintains biennial renewal of Board Authorization to practice as a Physician’s Assistant
  • BLS Certification
  • Preferably as least five years of health care employment with a strong knowledge in Cardiothoracic Surgery, including the ability to perform endovascular vein harvesting and function as CT Surgery First Assistant. Refer to Medical Affairs Dept. of Surgery Allied Health Scope of Activity.

Working Conditions

Works primarily in hospital setting, including clinical/patient areas. Mental effort required to assess, plan, and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Likely to be exposed to blood/body fluids, including infectious diseases. Duties require considerable walking, stooping, standing, bending, pushing, lifting (possibly in excess of 50 lbs.), and occasional ties of sitting, twisting, and kneeling. Ability to operate medical equipment instruments and office equipment. Require visual and auditory acuity, balance, hand dexterity, mobility of body, and mechanical ability. Considerable mental effort, ability to work in a confined high stress environment.
