Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a Manager of Clinical Documentation & Compliance Audits to lead efforts that ensure the integrity, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of clinical documentation across our multi-state behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment network.

This role is responsible for overseeing clinical documentation audits, facilitating compliance training, and evaluating documentation quality to ensure adherence to federal, state, and accreditation standards. Serving all levels of care, from detox to outpatient services, the manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to uphold excellence in care, confidentiality, and compliance.

  • Location: Flexible, preferably on-site in Pompano Beach, FL | Remote opportunity for out of state candidates to be considered

Essential Responsibilities

Audit Oversight & Documentation Compliance

  • Direct and manage clinical chart audits to verify documentation completeness, coding accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, OIG).
  • Develop, maintain, and execute audit schedules, strategies, and performance metrics tailored to program types and state-specific compliance requirements.
  • Analyze audit findings, track documentation trends, and prepare actionable reports for senior leadership.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on documentation discrepancies and assist sites in implementing corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular spot checks of auditor work to verify consistency, accuracy, and adherence to audit protocols.
  • Oversee auditor assignments and resource planning to balance team capacity and ensure project coverage across facilities.

Training & Collaboration

  • Provide ongoing training and support to chart auditors, site leaders, and clinical teams on documentation standards, compliance protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Design and enhance training programs for new and existing auditors.
  • Respond to facility inquiries on documentation protocols, offering guidance on best practices and policy interpretation.
  • Collaborate with EMR stakeholders to improve documentation workflows and usability based on audit feedback.

Leadership & Strategic Initiatives

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor a team of clinical chart auditors.
  • Support internal investigations, defense audits, and special compliance projects as directed by senior leadership.
  • Lead documentation improvement initiatives aimed at elevating audit readiness, clinical clarity, and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychology, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder settings, with direct involvement in clinical documentation, compliance, or quality assurance.
  • Clinical licensure in state of residence, multi-state licensure strongly preferred
  • CHC, RHIT, RHIA, or related credentials are preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, 45 CFR, and other relevant health information privacy and security laws.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal documentation regulations specific to behavioral health and addiction treatment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to multitask effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, and EMR systems (KIPU preferred).
  • Data analysis and reporting proficiency, including identifying documentation trends and compliance risks.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, regulated healthcare environments with multiple levels of care.
