Duties Description
This position is located within the Bureau of Actuarial, Division of Retirement Services and is responsible for:
One (1) year of permanent service as a Data Analyst 1.
OR
A bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field*; AND three (3) years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two (2) years of the specialized experience.

- Data Analytics Program Design, Implementation, and Development
- Initiate and build relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Guide data driven decision making across the organization.
- Judge new data sources and analytical tools.
- Design data for analysis.
- Investigate patterns and trends in data.
- Design dashboards based on customer use cases.
- Train others to use dashboards.
- Effectively communicate results to non-technical audience.
- Recommend appropriate solutions and software tools to fit the customer use case.
- Supervision of Data Analytics staff
- Supervise subordinate staff and interns as appropriate.
- Create subordinate assignments, set priorities, and prepare realistic time estimates.
- Assist staff in addressing technical and functional issues.
- Review subordinate’s deliverables to ensure data analytics best practice is met.
- Participate in developing and preparing employee Performance Evaluation assessments and provide performance feedback at frequent intervals.
- Develop, organize, and schedule training activities for subordinate staff.
- Coordination with Data Analytics Staff
- Receive training from the Data Analytics Team and train others.
- Collaborate at staff meetings and in communities of practice.
- Assist staff in addressing technical and functional issues.
- Develop best practices and create procedures for business processes.
- Tableau Administration Support
- Manage Tableau project permissions.
- Publish Tableau dashboards to public server.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Tableau issues as reported by users.
- Research new and existing Tableau features.
- Data Analytics within the Business Unit
- Develop, maintain, and support data-related processes.
- Scrutinize data for anomalies and propose corrective measures.
- Research new data sources and analytical tools and recommend superior methods.
- Support customer ad-hoc requests.
One (1) year of permanent service as a Data Analyst 1.

A bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field*; AND three (3) years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
- Substitution:
A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two (2) years of the specialized experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to present data with formatting suitable for non-technical users.
- Ability to develop solutions where customer needs are not precisely defined.
- Expertise in visualization tools such as Tableau or OBIEE.
- Expertise with data querying languages (such as SQL) and programming languages (such as PL\SQL, R, or Python).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Managerial experience.
- Desire to improve processes.
