Who are we hiring? We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director to lead and coordinate a team within our Venue Operations department. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring CPKC Stadium (Stadium) and The University of Kansas Health System Training Center (Training Center) operates at the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and guest experience. With a focus on both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning, the Director is responsible for managing budgets, leading cross-functional teams, and driving initiatives that support capital improvements, sustainability goals, and operational innovation. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of operational expertise, project management acumen, and strategic vision to enhance the stadium’s functionality and reputation.

What will you do?

  • Team Leadership and Coordination: Lead and manage a facilities team, assigning responsibilities, setting goals, and ensuring effective collaboration to achieve project objectives.
  • Project Risk Management: Identify potential project risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and implement proactive solutions to maintain project momentum and prevent delays.
  • Safety and Compliance: Lead emergency preparedness and coordinate regular safety audits, while ensuring venue adheres to all safety, health and accessibility regulations.
  • Vendor Management: Partner with outside vendor(s) to maintain relationships, coordinate work requests and ensure timely and successful project execution.
  • Resource & Budget Management: Plan and manage all project resources, including labor, materials, and equipment. Ensure optimal utilization to minimize waste and maintain cost-efficiency. Monitor expenditures to stay within budgetary constraints.

Responsible for the departments of CPKC Stadium and The University of Kansas Health System Training Center:

  • Venue Conversions: Oversee and coordinate the conversion of the stadium and training center for various events, ensuring seamless transitions between configurations for sports events and other private events.
  • Housekeeping & Facility Maintenance: Lead the housekeeping team in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities, ensuring high standards are upheld across all public and private areas.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Develop and implement sustainability programs and practices within venue operations. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry best practices.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the management and maintenance of the company’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring that all vehicles are properly maintained and ready for operational use.
  • Parking & Transportation Logistics: Manage the parking team and all aspects of parking operations, including efficient transportation strategies including shuttle services, ride-sharing coordination, and traffic management. Ensure a seamless experience for guests arriving at and departing from our facilities.
  • Event Coordination: Work closely with event managers, contractors, and other departments to ensure the smooth execution of events, including overseeing preparation, equipment setup, and any specific event needs.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional duties as required to support the overall operations and success of the stadium and training center.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in venue operations, with a strong background in overseeing multiple operational areas such as conversions, housekeeping, sustainability, fleet, parking and transportation.
  • Proven leadership experience, including supervising and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in strategic planning, executing long-term projects, and managing facility upgrades or capital improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial resources, with the ability to develop and monitor operational budgets while ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solutions-oriented and strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage complex logistics, including coordinating transportation, parking, and event setup to ensure seamless guest experiences.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability best practices and environmental regulations, with the ability to implement and manage green initiatives within venue operations.

Special Requirements Of The Job

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
