Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in education, social work, counseling or psychology; Masters Degree preferred
- Five or more years of experience working in a K-12 school setting
- Proven track record of fostering a positive and inclusive school culture
- Experience in Community Engagement
- Experience working with families and students as partners
Position Overview: The Dean of Culture at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences is an integral member of the school leadership team. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to address behavioral challenges, creating a supportive atmosphere for both students and teachers, and promoting a culture of respect and collaboration. The ideal candidate will have a background in educational leadership with a focus on behavioral support, strong interpersonal skills, and a dedication to improving student outcomes.
Physical Requirement: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and execution of the school’s strategic plan, with a focus on the implementation of select school culture priorities in support of the district-wide vision
- Monitor and assess the school climate, using feedback to make data-driven recommendations focused on continuous improvement.
- Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that emphasizes respect, collaboration, and mutual support among students and staff.
- Provide training and resources to school staff on best practices for behavior management and creating a positive classroom environment.
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide behavior policies and procedures.
- Ensure that behavioral policies are consistently applied and that any necessary adjustments are made to support a positive learning environment.
- Work closely with teachers to address and resolve behavioral issues, including developing individualized behavior plans when necessary.
- Design and conduct workshops and professional development sessions focused on behavior management techniques, classroom management, and student engagement.
- Support teachers in implementing evidence-based strategies and tools to enhance their skills in managing student behavior.
- Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and other support staff to address behavioral and emotional needs of students.
- Develop and oversee programs aimed at improving student behavior, social skills, and emotional resilience.
- Provide support during crisis situations related to student behavior, including coordinating with appropriate staff and implementing response strategies.
- Develop and maintain crisis intervention plans and ensure that staff are trained in emergency procedures.

- Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies.
- Strong understanding of restorative practices and responsive classroom management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.

- Ability to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and contribute to a positive school culture.
