Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Development & Strategic Alliances, the Associate Director/Director, Business Development & Strategic Alliances will play a key role in shaping the future of Viridian through direct ownership of the company’s partnering strategy across a range of in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities. This role will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end execution of key value-creating deals, at a stage of tremendous growth for the company. This role is designed for a dynamic and strategic individual responsible for driving business growth through the development and management of alliances with important strategic partners for Viridian.


This role is based in our Waltham, MA headquarters. Our office-based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week.


Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):


Business Development:

  • Support the development of Viridian’s partnering strategy and end-to-end execution of BD activities
  • Proactively manage and advance discussions with potential partners, establishing Viridian as a partner of choice
  • Transactions: Support structuring, negotiation, and closing of BD deals, including development of negotiating strategies, researching deal comparables, and building financial models / analyses to support deal valuation and terms
  • Lead generation: Identify / source new BD opportunities, including through proactive surveillance of biotech assets and companies in Viridian’s strategic areas of interest
  • Due diligence: Lead cross-functional internal teams to conduct in-depth due diligence of BD opportunities (e.g., clinical development, regulatory affairs, tech ops, legal, finance, program management)
  • Build and manage virtual data room to support BD activities
  • Establish and maintain external relationships through attendance at scientific and business conferences
  • Prepare and present BD updates and recommendations to Viridian’s executive leadership team


Alliance Management:

  • Support the management of key strategic alliances, in collaboration with Program Management, to advance Viridian’s business and portfolio goals
  • Lead alliance team interactions and governance to ensure robust strategic discussions, aligned execution, and effective decision-making; manage Viridian’s contractual obligations
  • Proactively identify issues, potential conflicts, and risks within Viridian’s alliances and work with the team to mitigate and/or drive resolution


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of work experience (10+ for Director-level) in strategy consulting, investment banking, equity investment, and/or corporate development in biotech industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences required; advanced degree(s) (MS, PhD, MBA, MD) preferred
  • Track record of forming successful partnerships, as shown in a deal sheet (preferred for Associate Director-level; required for Director-level)
  • Superb business and financial acumen
  • Proven ability to solve problems and drive results in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks with focus, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Collaborative, problem-solving mindset, with a “get it done” attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to ethical standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience
