GIS Technician

- General Description:
- QISG West is seeking a GIS Technician to support our growing design and construction team based in Spokane, Washington. This is an entry to junior level position, which will focus on technical support related to: GIS Project Coordination, GIS Analyses, and GIS Mapping. The ideal candidate is an efficient communicator and problem-solver who is very comfortable using the latest ArcGIS software and is experienced with an array of geoprocessing tools and has the capability to problem solve and provide work-around solutions to common ArcGIS processing errors and obstacles. You will have the opportunity to leverage the latest advancements in GIS software and processing techniques and to collaborate with experts in various disciplines to apply GIS technologies on a variety of projects within the power generation and transmission industry.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Provide GIS Support for various QISG departments including Geotechnical Engineers, Project Managers, Construction Engineers and Schedulers. This includes reporting, cartographic presentation, and other geoprocessing needs for geographic analyses.
- Assist GIS Analyst(s) in general processing and updating of existing geodatabases - may include running python scripts, geoprocessing models or manual data manipulation
- Perform daily quality checks on active processes and their outputs
- Support GIS Coordinator(s) and interface with clients to hone-in on project support needs
- Build Survey123 forms, create maps for Field Maps with direction from GIS Coordinator
- Build and maintain templates for data deliverables
- Report weekly on activities to GIS Manager
- Troubleshoot issues with efficiency
- Maintain a patient and collaborative approach to working with field clients
- Required Experience and Education:
- GIS/GISP Certification OR Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or related field, OR Minimum one (1) year work experience using ArcGIS at a GIS Technician/Assistant level with applied cartography, database management, and spatial analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to comfortably operate ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Excel (and other Microsoft 365 products).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Preferred Experience and Education:
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot ArcGIS-related challenges.
- Strong cartographic and visual design standards to make work products look great for both print and web.
- Strong data management skills including creating, editing, and transforming GIS data, cartography, database management, and spatial analysis.
- Experience leveraging AGOL Web Applications for end-user operation (ie: ArcGIS Dashboards, Story Maps, Experiences).
- Experience writing or operating Python scripts to automate processes.
- Experience with ArcGIS Field Apps - especially Survey123 and Field Maps
- Experience with client (or client-adjacent) consulting related to project management.
- Travel Requirements:
- On-site training support for projects - 0-5% max
- Physical Requirements:
- Be comfortable going on-site to electrical transmission line construction sites
