This position is a onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. As a Procurement Specialist, you will be responsible for helping the procurement team with sourcing optimization, negotiations, spend analytics, project management, purchasing activities, expediting, invoice payment resolutions, ad hoc reporting, and be a key member to help provide support to various cross functional members to ultimately help meet the divisions financial goals and targets.

What You'll Do

  • Ensures that all communications, actions, interactions and behaviors are consistent with ADC core values and the Abbott Code of Conduct.
  • First line responder; pivots between strategy, operations and transactional sourcing.
  • Sends out requests for quotes (RFQ) or request for proposals (RFP) to suppliers and follows up with suppliers as needed to ensure bids are submitted by deadlines.
  • Reviews supplier quotes for accuracy and creates supplier comparison reports that include various factors such as price, performance, project costs, tooling cost, and other metrics that are needed to make key supplier decisions.
  • Plans and schedules deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules/business demands by working with forecasting data/teams, planning teams, category teams and shipping/receiving teams.
  • Creates purchase requisitions and internal approval forms and ultimately places Purchase Orders (PO) and manages the PO maintenance until it is closed to include invoice payment.
  • Helps to resolve supply constraint issues and helps to find long terms solutions to mitigate constraint issues from occurring.
  • Performs as purchasing subject matter expert for internal and external customers due to extensive knowledge of purchasing.
  • Coordinates with other Buyers to help centralize information to help with dual sourcing allocations, timing of project ramp up and ramp down to help maximize project savings while balancing between inventory and supply continuity.
  • Leads and executes assigned projects to assure all procurement activities are performed as required, including but not limited to ad hoc reporting, SOWs/RFI's/Ordering documents, etc., assisting with supplier selection, etc.
  • Works with Quality teams to obtain supplier scorecards and obtain past supplier performance data to help with sourcing decisions and project risk management activities.
  • Participates in Research and Development or project meetings, developing and implementing action plans to support requirements bringing new products expeditiously to market.
  • Creates and maintains mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement, usually being the single source of contact for the vendor.
  • Helps with sourcing activities such as finding new suppliers and recommending new vendors.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to junior members of the purchasing team.
  • Monitors supplier performance, communicates and takes action to maintain high levels of supplier performance.
  • Maintains and updates supplier databases as required and generate reports to perform data analysis to proactively plan or resolve issues.
  • Works with inventory management/warehouse management to resolve issues.
  • Lead special projects as requested to reduce cost, increase efficiency, etc.
  • May processes some or all of the following: rejected components/corrective action, returns, debit memos, etc.
  • Executes against category strategies and work in the guidance of strategic category leaders. For example, while leveraging data/facts, engaging with the category leaders to execute strategies that will reduce sourcing risks and/or deliver greater value to Abbott.
  • Centrally own and drive continuous improvement initiatives for the Division Procurement team, including but not limited to enhancements to the Supplier Business Review process and other supplier performance monitoring tools, spend analytics, PPV & projects tracking, roadmaps, standard work tools, etc.
  • Leading initiatives to improve business insight processes, including working with key stakeholders to develop and enhance forward-looking spend analytics, collaborating with category managers to maintaining visibility to identified key business cost drivers, etc.
  • Maintains compliance and supports all company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, Corporate and division policies, procedures, processes and other regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiates long and short term contracts within established limitations and scope of authority to obtain the best total cost of ownership, including but not limited to pricing, lead times, quality, performance, safety stock, and liability.
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Responsible for managing the overall relationship with selected suppliers and acting as the primary interface between those suppliers and internal functions.
  • Managing supplier pricing/cost structure to deliver against budgets and cost targets.
  • Leading cost reduction projects with existing and potential alternative suppliers through competitive tendering, negotiation and identification of cost reduction opportunities
  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with user departments to implement improvements in the supply chain to reduce lead times, inventory and material liabilities.
  • Early identification of any potential risk to supply continuity and provision of effective solutions to minimize risk.
  • Working with Supplier Quality Assurance to evaluate and support audits of suppliers with regard to performance and to highlight potential issues.

Required

Experience You'll Bring

  • 3-5 years of procurement and functional experience
  • Prior experience in purchasing, sourcing, commodity and/or category management desirable
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Ariba, etc.), database tools, data visualization and strong MS Excel desired
  • Able to work under pressure and achieve tight timelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset to achieve positive results
  • Creative thinking; strong ability to think outside of the box and bring alternative or innovative ideas to the table
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a changing and diverse business and priorities.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting GMP.
  • Able to grasp and analyze complex issues and effectively resolve them.
  • Good attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.

Preferred

  • Certifications in Procurement or Supply Chain desirable for this role are – CPSM, CIPS, CPP, CPIM or equivalent certifications.
