Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Data Strategy Director for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in the USA.
Our client is an American multinational company that operates, franchises, and licenses lodging, including hotels, residential, and timeshare properties. It’s also the largest hotel chain in the world, with the largest number of available rooms. The company is based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, and encompasses a portfolio of nearly 8,300 properties under 30 leading brands spanning 138 countries and territories.
A Data Strategy Director of Marketing Personalization (FLEX) will join the Global Intelligence Products (GIP) organization and lead the data strategy & management for all customer data personalization needs. This pivotal role centers on crafting data strategies to refine targeted marketing and foster personalized customer experiences.
The Director will drive data requirements for the company’s Marketing & Personalization Acceleration (MAPA) program across all paid & owned channels, focusing on effective data collection, curation, and activation to enable prioritized use cases for revenue growth. The Director will implement advanced audience data management, segmentation, and marketing measurement strategies, using data insights to enhance personalized campaigns and content generation, working closely with cross-functional teams from marketing, digital, and technology organizations. Moreover, the Director will lead efforts to improve data platforms, including cloud data warehouses and a real-time customer data platform (CDP), leveraging the latest technologies for sophisticated marketing personalization.
This high-impact position will involve direct interaction with the leadership teams across the SBID organization and the Marketing department.

Requirements
- 4-year degree from an accredited university in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar quantitative discipline, and 8+ years of experience demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance in data management, analytics, data warehousing, or marketing technology OR 6+ years of experience in data management, analytics, data warehousing and a Master’s degree.
- Understanding the design and engineering of complex data flows for audience development using SQL.
- Experience managing and defining transformational strategies for customer & marketing data.
- Knowledge of underlying marketing tech, database technologies, and distributed datastores (e.g., Snowflake, AWS).
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results under challenging conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity.
- Data and Analytics Infrastructure: Work with Analytics and IT teams to develop and deploy an effective marketing data and customer analytics infrastructure.
- Contribute to data strategy, data management, and the development of enhanced data products for use by the marketing discipline.
- Oversee the broader data strategy and effectively prioritize implementation tactics for media data to ensure they align with overall organizational goals and long-term business strategies.
- Work closely with the marketing and analytics teams to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and data requirements necessary for optimizing segmentation strategies and enhancing ROI.
- Manage vendors and technical staff to build infrastructure that supports data and reporting solutions in AWS, Snowflake, Tableau, Python, and other platforms.
- Oversee the development of systems and technologies that reduce manual processes and data quality issues relating to data capture.
- Partner with Analytics and IT to build data management, analytics, and reporting roadmaps for future years.
- Partner with business leadership to secure funding for critical Data Management & IT programs.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders across the organization. Foster a favorable climate that enables the development of effective teams committed to achieving organizational goals and initiatives.
- Update stakeholders on key initiative wins and opportunities, respond to concerns, and solicit feedback. Engage leadership to develop and execute action plans to address gaps.
- Assist direct reports with building and maintaining stakeholder relationships as business partnerships.
- Analyze service issues and identify trends.
- Collaborate with teams to develop an operational strategy that aligns with the brand’s business strategy and drives its execution.
- Review and audit expenses.
- Monitor performance against the budget.
- Review reports and financial statements to determine the performance of operations against the budget.
- Coach and support the team in managing expenses and controllable costs.
- Interview and hire employees.
- Promote the fair and equitable treatment of employees.
- Facilitate regular and ongoing communication within the department (e.g., staff meetings).
- Foster employee commitment to providing excellent service, participates in daily stand-up meetings, and models desired service behaviors in all interactions with customers and employees.
- Incorporate customer satisfaction as a component of staff/operations meetings with an emphasis on generating innovative ways to improve results continually.
- Set goals and expectations for direct reports using the performance review process and hold staff accountable for performance goals.
- Solicit employee feedback.
- Utilize an “open door policy” and review employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
- Promote adherence to policies consistently, follow disciplinary procedures, and document items according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs), and support the Peer Review Process.
- Conduct annual performance appraisal with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Champion change ensures brand and regional business initiatives are implemented and communicates follow-up actions to the team as necessary.
